The University System of Georgia is preparing to begin accepting CLT for undergraduate admissions in Fall 2027. We are also working with state lawmakers tasked with reviewing CLT in preparation for scholarship-related legislation to be filed in January of 2027.

Why it matters: This continues CLT's growing momentum in higher education and expands opportunities for students applying to one of the nation's largest public university systems.

Indiana recently expanded college entrance exam choice through the passage of Senate Bill 88, which recognizes the Classic Learning Test as an admissions exam that may be used in applications to the state’s public universities. We are now coordinating with lawmakers and a growing coalition of supporters to initiate legislation that will expand testing options for private schools participating in the state’s school choice program.

Why it matters: The policy represents a significant advancement in expanding access to higher education opportunities while increasing flexibility for students and families.

The Iowa Board of Regents recently approved the inclusion of CLT in its Regents Admission Index (RAI).

Why it matters: Iowa students can now use the CLT to qualify for automatic admissions to the state’s public universities.

While many state legislatures are out of session, policy work never stops. Lawmakers, state agencies, and higher education leaders are already preparing for the next legislative cycle. Here's what we'll be watching over the coming months:

• Expanding assessment choice by working with a national coalition to ensure that private K-12 schools are not forced to mimic public schools via state assessment mandates.
• Growing college admissions recognition as additional colleges and university systems consider accepting CLT alongside the ACT and SAT.
• Advancing parity for CLT by working with lawmakers in 8 to 12 states in the next legislative session to ensure students can use CLT wherever other nationally recognized college entrance exams, such as the ACT and SAT, are accepted.
• Monitoring new school choice legislation and identifying opportunities to expand educational freedom for families across the country.
