Preparing for the Remotely Proctored CLT10

We understand that remotely proctored testing can seem overwhelming for parents and students. This page is designed to give you an idea of what to expect, as well as provide some tips to help your 9th-10th graders succeed. Remotely proctored testing ensures that CLT and our Partner Colleges can continue to offer an increasing number of secure, merit-based scholarship opportunities. More information on these scholarships can be found in the FAQ section below.

As a reminder, the CLT10 is only offered on the test day listed on the website. Live chat support is provided from 7am - 7pm ET on test day.

Below are some important things to know about remotely proctored testing with CLT. We recommend you go over these with your students before test day so they know what to expect.

Student-Only Testing Environment
The test is not parent-proctored. The exam is recorded (not live proctored) and later reviewed by CLT staff. The student must stay by themselves from the start of the exam to the end. Guardians are encouraged to help students during the pretest steps, but will need to be shown exiting the room before the test begins.
Built-In Timer
The timer is built into the exam. Students are notified by a chime when they have five minutes and one minute remaining in each section.
Break Policy
Students are allowed to stand and stretch in view of the camera in between sections. The student may not leave the room once the exam has started.
Physical ID Required
Students need an ID to test. Please see the section below for detailed information about acceptable forms of ID.
Technical Requirements
Devices must have a working camera, microphone, and the ability to screen-share. Tablets and mobile devices cannot be used; they are not compatible with the remotely proctored exam.
LockDown Browser
The device used must be compatible with CLT's LockDown Browser. We encourage students to download the browser before test day to ensure the device is properly set up. For more information about compatible computer types and instructions for downloading, please see here.

The pretest will walk students through everything they need to do before taking the CLT10, but they might need help with some of the steps, specifically the technical setup. This page shares step-by-step directions for navigating the pretest and starting the exam.

We encourage guardians to go over the rules with their students, set up the testing space, and help students go through the pretest. If a guardian does assist in the setup, the student must show them leaving the room before the test begins.

IDs are required for the remotely proctored exam. Any form of physical unexpired government photo ID (passport, drivers permit, etc.) can be used! A physical, current year school ID is also acceptable, as well as the HSLDA Student ID.

If your student does not have any of these, we ask students to use the CLT Student ID Form. It can be filled out and taken to a notary in your area to have it signed. Please be sure to follow all instructions on the form.

Wondering how to find a notary? A simple Google search should reveal most notaries near you. Public libraries, mailing centers (UPS), some banks, and county clerks can have notaries in office.

The Test Simulation is a practice run-through of the pretest, and is followed by an optional practice test. Note that this practice test is a CLT, not a CLT10. Once a student registers for a remotely proctored test, they will see an option to take a Test Simulation on their online dashboard. This will walk them through exactly what the pretest will look like on test day and can help guardians and students feel more confident.
